You know those mornings you wake up on the wrong side of the bed?

Today was NOT one of those morning. I arose early, before 7 (which, for someone who's only goal during the day is to put pants on and get as many Grey's Anatomy episodes in, is early).

I felt inspired. Ambitious. It was a day for making pancakes!

So I whip up the batter...

Get my Aunt Jemima Syrup out..

And my specialty vanilla blend Starbucks coffee...

and my Vanilla creamer for an extra vanillaly burst of coffee goodness..

And then all of a sudden I get this aroma. No, not the yummy vanilla cream aroma from my coffee but something else... I get close to the batter and take a whiff...

It smells like dead meat. Literally.

Well maybe it's just the way batter smells, I try to console myself. And then I realize it didn't smell bad until I added the egg and the milk. I did add vinegar to the milk to make it "butter milk" but it just smells like sour-ish milk, and not rotting meat. Totally different.

So I fish the egg out of the trash and smell it. And it just smells like trash. Go figure. I keep smelling it and it starts to have a weird odor to it... but maybe it's just my brain playing tricks. But then I start having these visions of me eating pancakes, getting Salmonella poisoning from the rotten egg, and shrivellling up on the floor and dying alone.

So I type "what does a salmonella egg smell like" into google. I get two responses. "It smells like a rotten egg" and "It doesn't smell any different." Very helpful, thanks google.

My first decision is to just suck it up and eat it. And then... all I can smell is meat. Ew. So I throw it out and eat some toast. Boring.

But I still have my specialty coffee... and it's still only 8am... I have big plans to be productive today; study, clean, maybe visit my mother-in-law.. but maaaaybe there's time for one quick episode before I get going... ;)
