1. Calling Someone Fat
It is not considered rude to make a statement about someone's weight. It is considered the same as commenting on someone's height, "wow you're really tall" is no different than "wow, you're really fat." Seriously. A friend of mine was at her mother's funeral... and a lady came up to her and was like, "Lia?? Is that you?" And she was like "yes.. it's me.." and the lady was like "is it really you?!" and she was like "um.. yes?" and the lady goes, "wow, you're fat!" At her mother's funeral. Can you imagine?!
2. Relationships with married people
I feel like in Canada friendships between married people get weird sometimes.. like it's awkward to hug your friend's husband, or things like that. My friends' husbands kiss me here. And a few weeks ago one of Deison's female friends phoned him "just to chat" and they spent like 15 minutes just talking on the phone about life. I feel like that would never happen in Canada.
3. Babies and pop
I have seen parents fill their toddler's bottle.. with pop. And then later complain that they don't know why their children are overweight.
4. The ineffectiveness of making a purchase.
I just.. I DON'T GET IT. Let's say I want to buy a blender, ok? I go into the store, I find the display model I want.. and then I have to track a salesperson down and say I want that blender. He will then go find it in the stockroom for me. In the meantime, I have to go pay for it. Once I have [waited in line] and paid for it, I then go into another line and wait for the item itself. Then I can finally leave the store with my blender. Like.. WHY?! Don't even get me started on how returns work, you'll want to pull your hair out.
5. Rules of the Road
The capital cities generally have more organized transportation.. but.. rules of the road here basically don't exist. When Deison drove with me in Canada he was shocked. I stopped at a stop sign once, and he was like "why did you just completely stop?!" I was like, "cuz there's a stop sign.." and he goes, "yeah but no one was coming. Do you still have to stop?" Hahah. But the thing is here it works, because NO ONE follows the rules of the road. It would actually be more dangerous to drive according to the rules because no one is expecting it and you'd get run in to. There is a reason I don't drive here..
