My life. In letters.

thanksgiving in brazil

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Though these pictures are usually symbols of thanksgiving season, they don't really apply to me here near the equator. Firstly because there is no changing leaves or pumpkins decorating doorsteps, but also because thanksgiving isn't celebrated in Brazil.

However, since it is my home... I can celebrate whatever I want! I could even celebrate thanksgiving again in November like the states if I wanted..

It's interesting trying to explain a holiday that has existed before I was born - I've never had to explain thanksgiving, I just show up and eat good food. But since this year I couldn't be at Gramma's pounding down stuffing and turkey, I decided to make my own thanksgiving dinner! (And explain to Deison what it is) And after all, since we are a few family, we can start new traditions :)

They don't really eat pie in Brazil, therefore a frozen pie crust and chocolate pudding was out of the question. So to the kitchen I went!

This was my first attempt at a pie crust.

I rolled the dough way too thin - however, I hate to waste.... so I sprinkled it with sugar and cinnamon and ate it :D

Mmmmm chocolate pie filling made from scratch

Ta da! (Ok so.. apparently I don't know anything about pie crust, we had to use a steak knife to eat it, but.. the filling was good..)

Stuffing! That tasted just like home!

I didn't bother to attempt a whole chicken.. but this was a pretty good substitute

A table for two

Happy Thanksgiving! :)
