Panoramic Ponderings

My life. In letters.

Christmas Spirit

I don't know what it is about where I live... the altitude, the climate... but.. I can't bake anything with success! Nothing rises. My cakes always fall in, cookies don't puff up, it's so annoying!

And while I'm on this rant.. let me just say that "room temperature" where I live, cannot be applied to most recipes. Room temperature of my butter is nearly liquid, room temperature water is really warm (I can't even take a cold shower some days because the water is so warm coming out of the shower, even on "cold"), and chocolate at room temperature? Smush. Complete smush.

However, it appears the universe was on my side today and I made some holiday sugar cookies with complete success! *Maybe because they don't really need to rise...* well, I'm going to take the credit anyway.

I'm trying to get into the holiday spirit, even though I think... Christmas is just going to pass me by this year. I tip my shiny snowglobe over and watch the sparkles of pretend snowflakes swirl around the tiny snowman in the center and.. I'm sorry, but there's nothing Christmasy about 40 degree sweaty weather and mosquito attacks.
Also, what a shock to know that not every country completely exploits and commercializes the holidays and turns the world into money making sales of decorations and xmas paraphernalia (yes, that IS how you spell it.. I looked it up). It doesn't even look like Christmas here. I miss the lights twinkling on every shop and house... and wreaths on the doors... I know what you're going to say "that's not the meaning of Christmas Heidi" well, you can just go away. I'll mope about it if I want.

But look! Just look at these cookies... they are fluffy and warm and sweet and yummy. And I might eat all of them before Deison gets home.

Mmmm the best part...

That's all. Happy Holidays to you and yours.. or something.

Kudos to you for not giving up on what seems to be the ridiculously challenging feat of baking successfully in the outrageous heat!!
