Panoramic Ponderings

My life. In letters.

The post about food

When you're a kid, or at least when I was a kid, I used to love going grocery shopping with my mom. She'd let me sit in the cart, or stand on the end (woah, daredevil...) I remember this clearly, sitting in the cart... probably because I sat in the cart until I was like 15. Well, not really... but I weighed around 6 pounds until I was a teenager. I was kind of like a strange woodland creature... just.. never the right size. When I was almost 13, a man at an amusement park thought I was 7. I'll never get over it.

Ok... back to my story.. I used to love grocery shopping with my mom, because if I was nice and said please she'd let me get treats. I always dreamed of when I had my own house, and my own family and I could do my OWN grocery shopping. And let me tell you, now that it's here... it's everything I dreamed of!

I secretly get so excited when we have to go grocery shopping... up and down the aisles... and I can put as many treats into the cart as I want! :D But something that really bugs me... is that you can't buy large quantities of stuff here, and if you can, it's rarely cheaper. Sometimes it's even more expensive. Ummm Costco anyone? Or Superstore?! Like, the biggest bag of flour you can buy is 1Kg. ONE kilogram of flour. It's this teeny tiny package and it annoys me.
this is how you should be able to buy flour. in a huge freaking sack

Or laundry detergent, there's like 2 options if you want to buy a big sack. The rest come in tiny little boxes. Isn't it weird? Or chips... there's 2 flavors of chips if you want to buy a big bag. And by big bag I mean the regular sized bags of chips everyone I know buys at home. It's just a totally different mentality. Maybe that's why everyone in North America is fat. I mean that in the kindest most politically correct way possible.

Anyway.. I just wanted to tell you that. Because Deison doesn't think it's weird that everything comes in tiny sizes and that if you buy the big bag of something, it should be cheaper per gram. It's just common sense... isn't it...

And now that we're talking about food... here's the food that I'm dreaming of right now...

1) CEREAL! Omg... I love cereal so much. And a) there's like 3.8 kinds of cereal here and it's pretty much all sugary kid stuff b) there's no cold milk. I'm sorry but powered milk and/or shelf milk just doesn't work for me. This picture... actually almost makes me cry.

2) Bagels mmmm

3) Chips.. Old Dutch... Lays... Tortilla... any kind of chip that actually tastes good :(

4) Salsa

5) Kraft Dinner...

6) Dairy Queen... or A&W.. or any other fast food chain that I've actually heard of... or any other restaurant that serves North American food..

7) Stovetop Stuffing

8) Mars bar.. oh oh, I can almost taste it..

9) Candy! like those yummy 5 cent ones from gas stations...

10) cheese... like actual good cheese. oh man how I miss cheese...

Well, I could go on forever. Fast food, chocolate bars, candy, chips... umm, now I know why everything thinks North Americans are fat. hahah.

It was fun taking you grocery shopping then and when you come home we will go again. You can even sit in the cart if you like.

Yes yes yes! Can I put treats into the cart when you're not looking??

Even the Costco-ish store doesn't sell large bags of flour?? That is odd. Maybe they figure if the bags are any bigger, the flour will just go rancid in the heat before you can use it all up. But as much as you've been baking, I don't think that would be a problem :)
I must say, I really miss the mangoes from our visit to Brazil. And the juice. Oh my!

yes the fresh juice is one thing i never get sick of here.. :) mmmmm
